I've heard it's a good idea to 'decommission' a watering system over winter to prevent it from being damaged by freezing- what do you recommend for my WaterMate?

Hey mulletjuice,

It's completely dependent on your greenhouse, set up and system. However the system and electronics themselves are made to last in all sort of conditions and shouldn't be damaged by frosts.

If you mean that perhaps the sprinklers, drippers etc. could get damaged and stop working due to freezing conditions then that is a possibility. It completely depends on your set up and what you're growing/ how often you intend to water etc!

Also - we recommend that you leave the control unit turned on, with the solar panel connected, but the irrigation turned off. This will keep the battery trickle charging through the winter so it's fresh and ready for spring. Why not set a temperature alert on the system ( assuming you have it connected in "online mode" where you get a message when temperature gets near freezing?

I set mine to 0 seconds on both zones. Good idea for the low temp alert ( wish I had wifi close enough, mine's in offline mode so I won't get the notification, but like the idea )
